Featherbed Railroad Caboose Bed & Breakfast

Featherbed Railroad Bed & Breakfast

PHOTO JOURNAL about beautiful, tranquil and unique Bed & Breakfast located in Upper Lake, CA.

In the summer of 2023, we enjoyed our wedding anniversary road trip through some parts of Northern California. One of our getaway locations was this unique extraordinary Bed & Breakfast located in Upper Lake, CA.

Located far away from the nearest large city (Santa Rosa), Featherbed Railroad B&B is a great getaway for those who are seeking a unique place to rest, recharge and get inspired. With beautiful views of Upper Lake, the hills, and surrounding greenery this B&B stands out among little villages around this area of California.

Unfortunately, we stayed only one night and really wanted to stay longer but couldn't, due to our tight schedule.

Our caboose "Casablanca" (as you can guess from the name was inspired by the classic movie) was incredible, cozy and full of details from the famous movie.

TV in every caboose

The Caboose was unexpectedly specious inside. It has an open space room, we had a small bar table with mini bar, coffee machine, small fridge, TV, sink and toilet.

Our room had a jacuzzi tub (note that every caboose has jacuzzi) and a cozy queen size bed with the best mattress we have ever had! The mattress was so gooood, you won't believe it, but we ended up digging up the label on it, taking photo and buying one for our bed at home 😄 Later on we learned that their mattresses are quite famous among the guests.

At times the caboose had a sensation of moving and we experienced a feeling that we were traveling on an active train. (Note: we were sober 😃)

Our room had so many little details from the film "Casablanca", which Starred Humphrey Bogart, it was so much fun discovering them.

The mirror in the restroom even featured Bogart's famous line, "Here's looking at you kid."
Original upright piano with warm neon representing "Rick's Cafe" which is a key place in the film.
Nice little touch to add a hat and coat similar to Bogie's.

Every caboose has its own parking space!

Good size personal parking spot (close and convenient to the caboose)

All cabooses are surrounded by a lush green small park that features picnic tables and grills. During the evening, the ambiance is quite lovely and romantic.

Across the road from Featherbed Railroad B&B there is a nice old wooden pier for the guests with a beautiful view on the lake. Such a peaceful and calm area. Wonderful for sunsets.

Since it is a Bed & Breakfast, our breakfast was included with our stay. Breakfast was delicious, absolutely home cooked style with vegetarian/vegan options available!

We were quite hungry after our road trip from Sonoma Valley and there are not so many places to eat around this area, but the owners of Featherbed Railroad B&B recommended one great restaurant for us 😉

Recommended place to eat: Blue Wing Saloon Restaurant (might have to make a reservation during busy days). The food was really good, fresh and flavorful (trust me - we are foodies and love good food). Vegetarian/Vegan options available.

There is also a good-sized pool available for guests with tons of pool toys and floaties. We were all by ourselves at the pool, just got lucky that pretty much everyone was out. While no one was looking we were playing with water guns and floating on a slice of pizza 😄 it felt great to be a kid again.

We spent less than 24 hours in Featherbed Railroad B&B, but it was enough time for us to fell deeply in love with this place! We definitely will be back to explore more cabooses (including the supposed haunted caboose) and enjoy the many other unique and detailed themes.

If you don’t stay at the Featherbed Railroad, you’ll regret it, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but soon and for the rest of your life...

P.S.------- If you love vintage and historic hotels and respect what comes with them, than this place is for you, but if you are expecting a high-tech experience than perhaps you shouldn’t be ridin’ the rails.
